I saw this movie with no explanation, nor did I see a trailer. (I usually never watch trailers because they are edited for imbeciles who want to see every fucking plot point in the movie, making trailers into “Cliff Notes” instead of something that tantalizes).
The movie started off in a new style. It seemed indie instead of commercial. I liked feeling like I wasn’t fully oriented in the story. Highly commercial movies speed to give you the overall plot within minutes.
My appreciation turned into condemnation during the first sex scene because it was clear the director was terrified of the subject matter. The behind-the-scenes featurette showed the director, which made me think that he is either gay or has never seen breasts in real life. I don’t think I have ever had sex with a girl who had her clothes still on, not even a bra, and the only time I had sex under a blanket was because it was bitterly cold. By the way, you get to see the man’s ass because he is naked on top of the girl, but she is not.
If there were no sex scene, it would not have taken me out of them movie. If a director is terrified of nudity, he should not show a scene that requires nudity. It’s not even as cheesy as the 1950s when directors hid nudity by other objects in the room. How many times do you have to see a nude woman standing in front of objects that conveniently hide her boobs and peepee? It’s ridiculous. But in this movie, it’s worse because the girl is always clothed. Seriously, even when I had quickies, the girl was naked, with only one exception on a bus when my girlfriend wore a dress. She took off her panties, mounted me, and no one bothered us. Show a scene that way, fag. The lack of nudity in such a scene is due to the sex being in public, not because of squeamishness.
That took me out of the movie and I felt like quitting. What other parts of the movie are going to terrify the director? What else is going to be filmed in a half-ass manner. Wait, there was a full ass; a man’s ass. so maybe I need to find another term.
The reason I didn’t quit was because the character played by Inde Navarrette was astounding. She makes up for all the other things about the movie that are bad. The male lead is a beta male who is so unwatchable that I suspected this was going to be a girl-boss movie in which all males are wimpy and useless. During the opening scenes, I hoped his character would be killed which would then launch a different direction. I couldn’t imagine him being a main character. Who wants to watch someone like that? I fantasized that he would go in his room, log in to social media sites, and then type want-to-be tough-guy posts (because that is the only courage he can muster). and then people who discovered his address break into his house and kill him.
Also, the commercial plot-points are easily predicted. The new information that is revealed to the viewer invalidates the behavior of those characters in early scenes, so the script seems to be written for formula rather than story. And the story is stupid. But again, that actress Inde Navarrette makes the movie worth watching.
